What the speed test measures

  • Speed score on a phone and on a computer, each out of 100.
  • A timeline of what a phone visitor sees, second by second, until they can tap a button.
  • Page size: how much a visitor has to download, split into images, your own code and add-ons from other companies.
  • Server response: how quickly your hosting starts sending the page.

The usual causes, and the fixes

  • Large photos: compress them before uploading and use modern image formats.
  • Add-ons and tracking from other companies: remove the ones you don’t use and load the rest after the page is ready.
  • Too many fonts and scripts on the first screen: delay anything the first screen doesn’t need.
  • Slow hosting: if the server is slow before anything loads, no amount of image work will fix it.

Phones are slower than computers and often on mobile data, so they show the real wait most visitors experience. We test both and weigh the phone result more heavily in your score.

What is a good speed score?

80 or above is good. Between 50 and 79 means visitors notice the wait. Below 50 means many visitors leave before the page is ready.

Is the website check really free?
